He began his scientific activity in 1981 while still an undergraduate course of Geology, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), dedicated to the study of fossil vertebrates, especially reptiles found in the Cretaceous of Brazil. In 1991, completed graduate studies at the Federal University in 1996 and the doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Columbia University (New York), in conjunction with the program American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). He joined the National Museum (UFRJ) in 1997, where he devotes himself to research on vertebrate fossils, particularly those found in Cretaceous deposits.
